About

Born in Kolkata, Aranya Sen is a multi-platform director, screenwriter, cinematographer, editor and creative marketer and is currently based in Tallinn, Estonia. He was the youngest filmmaker at the age of 12 to have had a shortlisted film to the national level by the Ministry of Culture in INTACH's "Film-it" India Project in 2014 and a selected film at the Kolkata International Film Festival. He was also awarded an accolade by the renowned and late Film Critic Gaston Roberge. During Covid Lockdown in 2020, Aranya's one-room production "My Neighbour's Window" was selected to the Veracruz, Gazte and the Rome International Film Festival and awarded the Silver Jury at the KIDz Cinema Film Festival in Mumbai. His first student documentary as a cinematographer, "Hued", a liberating narrative of a drag queen in conventional Estonian society, garnered acclaim and screenings at Baltic and Nordic LGBTQ establishments such as Vikeruum (Estonia's largest LGBTQ+ Event) and the Helsinki International Drag Fest. Aranya's debut short film, "The Day I Killed My Mother" premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, PÖFF Shorts in 2022 and garnered acclaims in Rand Film Fest and International Inter University Film Festival. As a cinematographer, Aranya Sen's work on the short film "Asphyxia" earned the Best Horror Short award at the 2023 Golden Beggar Awards in Slovakia. He is a graduate of the Baltic Film, Media & Arts School and an alumni of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival Cinematographer's Talent Lab: FWF. As a creative marketer, Aranya works alongside domestic and international brands to spark cultural conversations with diverse media. As a filmmaker, his work tackle sensitive themes of familial trauma and survivor's guilt using diverse cinematic methods.
